2009 On Our Marks, 2011 Is Action Year - President

President John Evans Atta Mills
President John Evans Atta Mills has declared 2011 as the action year in which Ghanaians would see the physical manifestations of the ‘Better Ghana’ agenda.

Receiving the Managing Director of the Standard Bank of China, Mr Fan Bing, at the Castle, Osu, yesterday, President Mills said 2011 would be the year when Ghanaians would see the government  making  judicious  use of the country’s resources, especially in the area of infrastructural development.

Mr Bing is in the country to finalise a $5-billion credit agreement with Ghana, for the construction of the eastern corridor rail line, which is expected to begin early next year.

President Mills noted that Ghanaians were eager to see improvement in their lives, which is justifiable because the country abounds in natural resources.

He, therefore, said next year would see the productive application of the country’s resources, “to have meaning in the lives of the citizenry”.

He stressed that the government would give true meaning to the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ as Ghanaians would begin to see “actual construction taking place all over the country”.

President Mills said the visit of the delegation from the Standard Bank of China, which was a follow-up to his visit to China, was a testimony of the commitment of the government and people of China to do business with Ghana.

He expressed the hope that the relations between China and Ghana would be further strengthened with the implementation of the rail line project.

Mr Bing said the Standard Bank of China was committed to the implementation of the Eastern Corridor rail line project.

He said the finalisation of the agreement would mark the beginning of the implementation of the project in the first quarter of next year.

Mr Bing reiterated the bank’s readiness to support infrastructural development in other African countries.
