Daily SMH: Botswana's President is Not Into Fat Chicks

by BVX Staff

Ian Khama, the 57-year-old president of the south African nation Botswana, is a handsome, eligible bachelor looking to find himself a wife. But, as ABC News reports, if you're a woman who is overweight or below average height, your chances of hooking up with this world leader are slim.

Last month at a political meeting for his ruling party President Khama remarked that only a a tall, slim and beautiful woman would be suitable for marriage. His status as a single man is a matter of national concern in his country where Khama, as the chief of the country's largest ethnic group, is required to be married as part of tribal tradition.

But Khama won't marry just any woman. After describing his ideal woman at the party meeting he then pointed to Assistant Minister of Local Government Botlhogile Tshreletso and said, "I don't want one like this one.

She may fail to pass through the door, breaking furniture with her heavy weight and even break the vehicle's shock absorbers." Ouch. Although those in attendance -- including the singled out Assistant Minister -- laughed at his comments we're left to wonder: What do his requirements say about an African leader whose countrywomen tend not to match his own ideal of beauty (women from the region tend to be shorter in stature and steatopygic)? For not giving full-figured and short women a chance President Khama earns today's SMH.
