Asantehene Urges Banks To Support Agric Sector

 

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has urged banks to be innovative in agriculture financing, since it has the potential to improve the rural economy, as well as contribute to the national economy.

The  Asantehene made this statement during a courtesy call on him by the management of Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited.

He  said the banking industries had a major role to play in the transformation the economy through support for the pillars of the economy.

He noted that the perceived risk of the agricultural sector by banks was hampering the development of the sector, which he said was the backbone of the economy.

The Asantehene lamented the high interest rates that associate with the agricultural sector and called on banks to re-asses the sector and devise the needed strategies to help the sector to develop.

Responding, the Managing Director of the bank, Mr Alhasani Andani, said the bank had devised the needed strategies to develop the agricutlural sector of the Ghanaian economy.

Included in the delegation were Mr Kwamina Asomaning, Director, Corporate and Investment Banking, Wing Commander Samuel Allotey, Head of Human Resource, and Mr Mawuko Afadjinu, Head of marketing and Communications.
