The 2010 best cocoa farmer, Mr Samuel Awuni, has commended Ghana government for increasing cocoa producer price in 2009 to GH150 cedis and to GH200 cedis in 2010. He said this when he addressed Ghanaians at a reception held in his honour at the conference hall of the Ghana High Commission in London on Friday the 19th of August.

Mr Awuni, who is on a visit to London, was taken on tour of major cocoa processing and buying companies including Kraft Foods and Armajaro Trading Ltd. It was to offer him the opportunity to acquaint himself with the cocoa industry and the stages involved in processing cocoa beans into chocolate and other by-products.

Mr Awuni, from Tepa District in the Ashanti region, promised to use his achievement to encourage the youth to go into cocoa farming and that this will offer them job opportunities and better lives.

The Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), His Excellency Professor Kwaku Danso-Boafo congratulated Mr Awuni and welcomed him to the Mission. He stated that the achievement of Mr Awuni is an indication that the youth of Ghana "can accomplish so much".

The Ghana Cocoa Marketin Company (UK) and the Ghana Union each presented a plaque and a citation to Mr Samuel Awuni in appreciation for his contribution towards youth involvement in cocoa farming in Ghana.

Present to help with the presentations were the former national security minister Mr Francis Poku, the High Commissioner, Professor Kwaku Dando-Boafo, the Deputy High Commissioner, Mrs Elizabeth Nicole, Mr Moussa Ahmadou Lenboni, Manager, Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company (UK) and the chairman of the Ghana Union, Mr Adu Mensah.

The reception was attended by a section of the Ghanaian Community in London including chiefs, queen mothers, heads of departments, the media and staff of the Mission.
