Better Economic Prospects Ahead - Trade Minister

Ms Hannah Tetteh - Trade Minister
Trade and Industry Minister, Ms Hannah Tetteh, is hopeful of the country’s economic prospects which are indicative of better times ahead.

She said the transformation of the economy in the last couple of years had raised hope for  the near future.

“We as a government are aware of what some people are saying about they not feeling the improvements in their pockets, but we are vigorously working on that to make people feel it more than they anticipate”, she said.

The minister said this when she addressed members of the Ghana Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce at a dinner dance in Accra.

The occasion was to commemorate one of the biggest celebrations on the American calendar during which citizens of that country reflect on the past and strategise for the year ahead, amidst merry-making and funfair.

According to Ms Tetteh, the government had to stabilise the economy through a carefully thought-out strategy and indicated that prudent management of the country’s resources had placed the economy on a sound pedestal ready for a take-off.

“When the economy takes off people will begin to feel more money in their pockets”, she said.

Ms Tetteh said Ghana was recently adjudged to have a middle-income status but on the lower side of the ladder. It was, therefore, necessary for all to put their shoulder to the wheel to ensure that the efforts being made presently bore fruits that would make it possible to realise the big dream.

Ms Tetteh commended the owners of American businesses in the country and pledged the government’s support to enable them expand and employ more Ghanaians.

“Ghana is the best place to invest on the continent and we hope to see more American investments in the country and we pledge our full support,” she said.

The call comes at a time when through the major effort of an American company, Kosmos and its partners, Ghana has struck oil in commercial quantities and production is expected in the next few days.
