Chartered Institute of Taxation to get legal backing
Accra, Nov. 13, GNA - The Chartered Institute of Taxation Ghana (CITG) is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to acquire legal backing to enable the institute inject efficiency and professionalism to promote and regulate tax practice.
CITG is also reviewing its syllabus to address regional and global needs in professional tax qualification and to meet best professional standards.
Mr Felix Ahima-Adonteng, the newly elected President of CITG made this known on Friday, when he and five other executive members of the Institute were sworn into office in Accra.
He called for public education on rights in the tax laws, remedies available to taxpayers and the creation of tax ombudsman to ensure compliance.
Mr Ahima-Adonteng expressed the hope that strong partnership among tax payers, tax practitioners and tax administrators would guarantee voluntary compliance.
In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as the tax knowledge gap that exist among prospective tax payers in the informal sector.
He called on the institute to step-up efforts in educating the public on the importance of tax.
The executive members of CITG include Mr Edward Kwesi Akpakli, Vice President, Mrs Rosemond Asante, Honorary Secretary, Mr Isaac Quaye, Assistant Honorary Secretary, Mr Isaac Nyame, Honorary Treasurer and Ms Aisha T. Gyasi, Assistant Treasurer.
