Chief advises Ghanaians to sustain 'football-patriotism spirit'
Apam, July 12, GNA - The Omanhene of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has urged Ghanaians to extend the strong spirit of nationalism exhibited in their support for the Black Stars towards national development.
"For once, partisan politics was put aside and members of the various political parties threw their weight behind the team," he noted.
"There is nothing that we cannot do to develop our country if we exhibit the spirit we demonstrated to our national team."
The traditional ruler, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, at Apam at the weekend, commended the Black Stars for their feat in the just ended World Cup tournament, in South Africa.
The Stars advanced to the Quarter Finals Stage, the only African team to progress to that level.
Obrifo Ahor Ankobea said though the Black Stars did not win the ultimate, they really made Ghanaians and the entire continent of Africa proud.
He commended Ghanaians for rallying massive support for the team.
In another interview, the Nimfahen of Nkusukum Traditional Area, Nana Baah VII, also lauded the Black Stars for their performance and appealed to the team and the technical handlers not to rest on their oars but to go into preparations for the African Cup and the World Cup competitions immediately.
Complacency must be avoided in their preparations, he advised.
Nana Baah, who is also the chief of Saltpond Lower Town, urged the government to encourage the formation of colt clubs and also to establish more soccer academies to hunt for and train the talents in their tender ages.
