Court jails fan milk seller 10 years for defilement

Kumasi, Sept. 1, GNA - A 20-year-old fan milk seller, who defiled a 14 year old Junior High School (JHS) student and impregnated her, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
John Appiah was also charged for aiding to criminally abort the unborn foetus.
He pleaded guilty to both charges and was convicted to ten and five years respectively. The sentence is to run concurrently.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Doris Amewu, told the Court presided over by Mr Justice D.W.P Amedior that the victim resides with the father, a carpenter and the complainant in the case at Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi whiles Appiah also lived at Adum also in Kumasi.
She said on August 8, 2010, the father was attracted to the young girls' room when she heard her groaning in pain.
Complainant, who found the girl languishing in extreme pain on her bed, tried to find out what was happening and desperately in need of help, the victim obliged to reveal to her father that Appiah impregnated her and later gave her some tablets (SYCOTEX) to abort the foetus.
Owing to victim's unstable health condition, she was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where an emergency abortion procedure was conducted by doctors to save victim's life.
A medical report was subsequently issued by the Domestic and Victim Support Unit (DOVSSU) of the Police Service after a complaint was lodged.
