Drivers advised not to charge exorbitant fares
Takoradi, Jan.7, GNA - The Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Mr. Isaac Esau, on Friday advised drivers not to arbitrarily charge high fares.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Takoradi, he said drivers must only charge the approved fares to avoid the imposition of financial hardships on passengers.
He noted that some drivers who did not belong to any transport union were charging higher fares, and cautioned such errant drivers to put a stop to it before the law caught up with them.
Mr. Esau said those were the drivers who did not submit themselves to scrutiny and picked passengers anywhere.
He advised the public to board vehicles at lorry stations to avoid paying exorbitant fares and to report drivers who charged higher fares to the executives of the GPRTU at the nearest lorry station.
Mr. Esau said drivers who were found to be at fault would be sanctioned to serve as deterrent to others.
He also asked passengers to desist from insulting drivers.
